The version I saw was developed by <a title=\"Technomics\" href=\"http:\/\/www.technomics.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Technomics<\/a>, Inc., who (interestingly) do a lot of work for my former organization, PA&amp;E (now <a title=\"CAPE\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cape.osd.mil\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CAPE<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>While Technomics seemed to claim (when I met them) that they &#8220;invented&#8221; the galaxy chart, I think this is probably an overstatement, since there seems to be plenty of <a title=\"Death and Taxes\" href=\"https:\/\/rockcontent.com\/blog\/the-federal-budget-visualized-death-and-taxes-2014\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">prior art<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Anyhow, I built a <a title=\"D3\" href=\"https:\/\/d3js.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">D3<\/a> <a title=\"D3 gallery\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/mbostock\/d3\/wiki\/Gallery\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">plugin<\/a> for a <a title=\"Galaxy chart layout example\" href=\"https:\/\/risacher.org\/galaxy-chart\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">galaxy-chart layout<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 712px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/\/risacher.org\/galaxy-chart\/galaxy-chart.PNG\" alt=\"Example galaxy chart\" width=\"702\" height=\"445\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Example galaxy chart displaying a view of the United States Federal Budget for Fiscal Year 2011<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When I first started working in for the Deputy CIO for Business Process &amp; Systems Review, I was exposed to a data visualization called a &#8220;galaxy chart&#8220;.
